From the quiet twang of a bow to the sharp crack of a high-powered rifle, hunting means different things, sights, sounds smells, to all of us.
We make the woods our second home because we are hunters, and that is where the hunted live.
We dream of a lake for a front yard where our elusive quarry scurry about in the depths and shallows, hiding in cover and mocking our lures.
We wake with the sun so as to not miss any opportunity then stay awake well into the dark to weave our stories into lies greater than our adventures.
We pass on the rituals of the hunt and the preparation of the fishing trip to the young because we know in years to come they will grow to be our fellow outdoorsmen, not our children any more.
When the birds don’t fly our way or the monster whitetail buck takes the path not past our tree stand, we curse mother nature then look forward to next trip when we walk her earthly ground.
